Bulldog Cottage is a deceptive and rather charming cottage set in an enviable position in the very heart of the stunning North Yorkshire village of Ampleforth, home to the stunning Ampleforth Abbey and a short drive from the picturesque market town of Helmsley, in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.
Arriving at the cottage is a real delight, passing through beautiful historical scenery and entering this pretty traditional village which has a delightful Main Street lined with characterful properties. Bulldog Cottage is located on West End within a row of pretty terrace stone cottages, with a quaint front door leading you into this warm and welcoming holiday home.
Set across two floors this two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage is beautifully appointed with plenty of space for relaxing, with a cosy living area complete with log burning stove and a very well-equipped semi open plan kitchen/diner. The garden is fully enclosed, has lovely seating areas and a lawn. It offers a restful place to relax and while away an afternoon with a good book or simply soak up the relaxing surroundings. There is a terrace too, perfect for al fresco dining.
Directly from the Bulldog Cottage you can pick up local walking trails and head out exploring.

THE SPACE
Entering Bulldog Cottage you immediately feel at home. With warm and welcoming interiors and decorative touches. The main living space is set on the ground floor and is well laid out with carefully selected furnishings to create the perfect space for gathering, with a comfy sofa and an easy chair set around the beautiful wood burning stove.
The living space flows into the well-equipped kitchen and dining area, allowing everyone to be together whilst cooking up supper or preparing a hearty breakfast, there’s a handy cloakroom on this level too. From the kitchen French doors open onto the terrace.
The first of two bedrooms both of which are positioned on the first floor is a pretty double bedroom with a view out to the garden. The soft colour palette and the sumptuous furnishings are the perfect recipe for rest and relaxation. This bedroom has a large ensuite complete with cast iron bath, separate shower, basin and WC.
With views out across the village and decorated in calm tones the second king bedroom has a relaxed feel, with beautifully soft linens inviting you to rest your head and drift off to holiday dreaming. An ensuite completes this beautiful space complete with shower, basin and WC.
French doors from the kitchen lead on to the terrace, this is a lovely spot for al fresco suppers, morning coffee whilst planning the day’s adventures or a welcome sundowner at the end of a day spent exploring. The garden is to the rear of the cottage and offers the space to while away an afternoon with a good book, for children to play or for BBQ suppers.
THE LOCAL AREA
Positioned in the centre of this beautiful village, opposite Heart’s Coffee House which serves excellent coffee, delicious food and delicious freshly baked bread! The village also provides a well-stocked shop and Post Office, a two-minute walk from the property. Both village pubs have reputations for good food along with many renowned local pubs and restaurants within a short drive from the cottage some of which are Michelin Star!
Ampleforth Abbey has been home to a Community of Benedictine monks since 1802. The Abbey church is open to visitors who might like to simply look around. Explore the beautiful lakes, trails and woodlands or join a behind the scenes tour of the Abbey’s orchards and Cider Mill to see how Ampleforth Abbeys’ famous cider and cider brandy is made. Ampleforth Abbey is within walking distance from the cottage, allowing you to take in the breath-taking valley views!
Visitors can take advantage of the sports centre facilities at Ampleforth College and within a 5-mile radius there is fishing, pony trekking, golf, cycle hire and the newly opened cycle trails from Sutton Bank National Parks Centre.
Just a few miles away discover the pretty market town of Helmsley, the only market town in the North York Moors National Park, where you will discover pubs, restaurants a small department store and a range of interesting independent delis and shops. Well worth a visit whatever time of year!
Close at hand are Rievaulx Abbey and Byland Abbey and the National Trust properties of Nunnington Hall and Rievaulx Terrace and Temples.
Lying just 20 miles north of the City of York, you are also perfectly placed to head into the city to experience the culture of the Minster, galleries and the ancient City Walls. Or if your passion is food, you will find many excellent independent bars and restaurants to discover!
York is a city brimming with history and culture. Take a walk along the castle walls and marvel at the view below or head to York Minster for some truly jaw dropping architecture, follow that with a wander around the cobbled streets with beautiful architecture to admire and independent boutiques to peruse.
Castle Howard, Scampston Walled Garden are also well worth a visit whilst exploring the many hidden gems of North Yorkshire.
Further afield you will discover Whitby on the East Coast, Goathland and Pickering in the North York Moors National Park. Masham, Ripon and Harrogate are to the west heading towards the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
