THE LOCAL AREA
The Yorkshire Wolds are chalk hills that were formed millions of years ago when the area was covered by shallow seas. The chalk was then carved into the rolling hills by streams and rivers. The village is south of Scarborough, northwest of Bridlington, and northeast of Sledmere. The Gypsey Race, the northernmost chalk stream in Europe, runs south of the village.
There are plenty of places to see and visit around Foxholes. Whether you love hiking or cycling, Foxholes is a region where many hidden gems are waiting to be explored and visited.
Foxholes is perfect proximity to the North York Moors National Park. The park is a vast area of heather moorland, forests, and coastline that is home to a wide range of wildlife, including red deer, otters, and rare birds. Visitors to the park can enjoy a range of outdoor activities, including hiking, cycling, and horse riding. The park is also home to several historic sites, including the ruins of Rievaulx Abbey and the medieval castle at Helmsley.
Sledmere House is well worth a visit – Built from golden stone, Sledmere House is a regal Grade I listed Georgian country house on the outskirts of Sledmere village. The house is set amongst wonderful gardens and parkland that were designed by the prominent landscape architect Capability Brown. The walled gardens are especially beautiful and featured on the TV show, Gardeners World.
Bridlington and Scarbrough on the East Coast are a shot drive with many local attractions to explore. The cathedral City of York is a 30-mile journey but well worth a day out to explore the history and array of lovey local and high street shops, cafes and eating houses.
