Hideaway Cottage is a beautiful stone cottage tucked away, as its name alludes, in the very heart of the pretty village of Ampleforth, which lies just 19 miles from the historic City of York. The village boasts two thriving public houses, a well-stocked village store and a lovely coffee shop. This quaint cottage is filled with natural light and has recently been renovated by the owners Emma and Tim, who have created a real home from home. The sitting room has a cosy fire and comfy sofas for relaxing at the end of a day out walking, while the separate dining room/conservatory looks out over the pretty cottage garden and terrace, perfect for gathering to catch up on the day’s adventures.
The two bedrooms, both located on the first floor are an oasis of calm, tastefully decorated with a restful colour palette and enjoy lovely views out over the pretty garden. The bathroom is also on the first floor with a shower over bath, perfect for an invigorating start to the day.
Outside you will find a pretty terraced garden with a table and chairs for al fresco dining, while the garden bench is the perfect spot for enjoying a sundowner as you take in the delights of this lovely private garden.
Directly from the cottage you can pick up local walking trails and head out exploring North Yorkshire.
Hideaway Cottage has ample FREE on street parking and welcomes dogs. (One dog is welcome – Please ask before booking if you would like to bring more than 1)
Please note: The staircase may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility due to its steepness.

THE SPACE
Step into the deceptive cottage through the conservatory/dining area, which is filled with natural light and taking in the pretty garden views. A door leads you directly into the cottage kitchen, which is sure to be any cooks dream space! Real thought and care have gone into the design and the attention to detail, which makes for a beautiful space for cooking up a hearty breakfast or a tasty supper. Everything you need is here to include an oven/hob, fridge freezer and washing machine.
French doors lead directly into the spacious and inviting living space with comfy sofas providing plenty of space for relaxing by the Electric fire. There is a smart TV too, perfect for watching your favourite movies whist relaxing after a busy day exploring the hidden gems! From the sitting room the staircase leads to the first floor ….
The first of two bedrooms is filled with natural light with a soft and calming colour pallet. The king bed takes centre stage in this relaxing space and is adorned with the softest pillows and sumptuous duvet, making this the perfect place for a restful night’s sleep. The second bedroom has a double bed and has lovely views over the cottage garden.
The bathroom is also on the first floor and is the perfect fit for the cottage. The bathtub is just what you need, for soaking any aching muscles after a ramble across the Moors. You will also find a shower over the bath, basin and loo.

THE LOCAL AREA
Opposite the cottage is Heart’s Coffee House serving excellent coffee, delicious food and delicious freshly baked bread! The village also provides a well-stocked shop and Post Office, a two-minute walk from the property. Both village pubs, The White Swan and The White Horse Inn, have reputations for good food.
Ampleforth Abbey has been home to a Community of Benedictine monks since 1802. The Abbey church is open to visitors who might like to simply look around. Explore the beautiful lakes, trails and woodlands or join a behind the scenes tour of the Abbey’s orchards and Cider Mill to see how Ampleforth Abbeys’ famous cider and cider brandy is made. Ampleforth Abbey is within walking distance from the cottage, allowing you to take in the breathtaking valley views!
Visitors can take advantage of the sports centre facilities at Ampleforth College and within a 5-mile radius there is fishing, pony trekking, golf, cycle hire and the newly opened cycle trails from Sutton Bank National Parks Centre.
Just a few miles away discover the pretty market town of Helmsley, the only market town in the North York Moors National Park, where you will discover pubs, restaurants a small department store and a range of interesting independent deli’s and shops. Well worth a visit whatever time of year!
Close at hand are Rievaulx Abbey and Byland Abbey and the National Trust properties of Nunnington Hall and Rievaulx Terrace and Temples.
Lying just 20 miles north of the City of York, you are also perfectly placed to head into the City to experience the culture of the Minster, galleries and the ancient City Walls. Or if your passion is food, you will find many excellent independent bars and restaurants to discover!
York is a city brimming with history and culture. Take a walk along the castle walls and marvel at the view below or head to York Minster for some truly jaw dropping architecture, follow that with a wander around the cobbled streets with beautiful architecture to admire and independent boutiques to peruse.
Castle Howard, Scampston Walled Garden are also well worth a visit whilst exploring the many hidden gems of North Yorkshire.
Further afield you will discover Whitby on the East Coast, Goathland and Pickering in the North York Moors National Park. Masham, Ripon and Harrogate are to the west heading towards the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
