THE SPACE

Upon entering the dining area, one is immediately enveloped by an inviting ambiance, hinting at the remarkable experiences that lie ahead in this sanctuary of tradition and transformation. The space radiates warmth, featuring a traditional Rayburn and a generous dining table, perfect for gathering over a hearty Yorkshire breakfast or unwinding after a day of exploring the moors.

Adjoining the dining area, the kitchen is fully equipped to inspire any aspiring chef, complete with a cooker, hob, and refrigerator. A charming pantry extends from the kitchen, along with a convenient downstairs WC.

Additionally, a separate room provides a versatile space to enjoy a book, admire breath-taking views, or relax after a busy day, complemented by an elegant dining table. The formal lounge boasts stunning vistas across the valley, furnished with comfortable sofas that surround a log burner—ideal for cozy autumn and winter evenings. A smart TV offers a perfect setting for unwinding and relaxation.

Ascending to the first floor, one is welcomed by three spacious bedrooms, each traditionally decorated with cherished family ornaments and memorabilia. The main bedroom features a king-size bed, while a double bedroom awaits just across the landing, complemented by a single room that completes the bedroom arrangement.

The family bathroom is equipped with a shower over the bath, a WC, and a basin.

Outside, the property boasts a lovely, expansive garden with diverse areas, including a beautiful seating space for alfresco dining. A delightful bench at the front of the cottage offers sweeping views across the valley—the perfect spot for enjoying that all-important morning coffee.

THE LOCAL AREA

The village nestles at the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park just 4 miles north of the A170 road which runs from Scarborough to Thirsk along its southern edge. The village provides peace and relaxation and has much to offer the holidaymaker. It is a place of unique beauty and historic interest. The village website www.lastinghamvillage.org is full of useful information.

Lastingham is a quiet village with fewer than 100 inhabitants and has a charming inn, The Blacksmiths Arms, which serves food and drink every day. It is everything a village pub should be.

Opposite this is the most famous building in the village – the church of St Mary with its ancient crypt built in 1078 as a shrine to St. Cedd and St. Chad. They came from Lindisfarne to find a monastery here in A.D. 654 and St. Cedd is buried beside the altar in the crypt. It is a very peaceful place for contemplation.

Flamingo Land Theme Park, Eden Camp Modern History Museum, Hutton-le-Hole Folk Museum, and the North York Moors Steam Railway are just some of the attractions in the neighbourhood. There are many historical sites to explore, such as the majestic Castle Howard, and other buildings such as abbeys, cathedrals, and stately residences. Last, but not least, there’s the wonderful scenery – woods and heather moorland, hills, dales and seaside.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.
