THE SPACE

Upon entering Eighteen Pottergate, you will be welcomed by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The soft colour palettes and luxurious interiors ensure a delightful experience. The entrance hallway provides an ideal space for storing coats and boots after a refreshing walk through the breath-taking countryside that lies at the cottage’s doorstep.

A cosy lounge, situated at the front of the property, features a smart TV and elegant sofas arranged around a log burner, creating the perfect retreat from the chaos of daily life or a serene space for quiet reflection on the day’s adventures. The newly fitted kitchen is equipped with everything needed to satisfy even the most discerning chefs, complemented by a large dining table where everyone can gather for a hearty Yorkshire breakfast, making it the ideal setting to plan the day’s excursions.

The first-floor features two luxurious bedrooms designed for comfort and relaxation. One room is equipped with a king-sized bed, while the second offers a single bed along with a z-bed, creating a cosy twin bedroom. A family bathroom accompanies these accommodations, complete with a spacious walk-in shower, a basin, and a water closet. Each bedroom provides a serene atmosphere, thoughtfully appointed with high-quality amenities and warm colour palettes. The beds are dressed in the softest duvets and pillows, ensuring a truly restful night’s sleep.

At the rear, you will find a secure garden, enhanced by a patio and outdoor furniture, perfect for enjoying the tranquil surroundings. The cottage is situated on a peaceful street, just a short walk from the heart of Helmsley.

THE LOCAL AREA

Lying in a sheltered corner of Upper Ryedale, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, Helmsley is a prestigious market town with a spacious market square surrounded by houses, hotels and shops. The area is important historically – Helmsley has its own 12th century castle and English Heritage’s Rievaulx Abbey and Castle Howard are close by.

Helmsley also boasts an arts centre showing films and plays, and an outdoor swimming pool, which is open during the summer. There is excellent walking on the doorstep – indeed the Cleveland Way starts in Helmsley – and the surrounding North York Moors with their hidden dales and villages are pretty in all seasons. The North Yorkshire Coast is easily accessible to include Scarborough, Whitby, robin hoods bay, Bridlington and Stathes, whilst Pickering and the beginning of the famous steam railway line (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) are a little over 20 minutes’ drive.

 

From Helmsley you can explore both The Howardian Hills and the neighbouring North York Moors National Park stretching across the Whitby and the coast. Excellent walking routes are on offer for seasoned ramblers and those looking for a more sedate meander alike. It’s also a perfect place for a cycling holiday with miles upon miles of perfect climbs and descents awaiting your discovery with jaw-dropping views to make the climbs worth the burn!

 

There are many historical attractions nearby including the majestic Castle Howard, the ecclesiastical ruins of Rievaulx Abbey and Byland Abbey and a castle and he National Birds of Prey Centre in Helmsley.

 

Being just 24 miles north of the City of York you are perfectly placed to head into the city, York is a city brimming with history and culture. Take a walk along the castle walls and marvel at the view below, or head to York Minster for some truly jaw dropping architecture and follow that with a wander around the cobbled streets with beautiful architecture to admire and independent boutiques to peruse or if your passion is food, you’ll find many excellent independent bars and restaurants to discover!
