THE SPACE

Enter this beautifully renovated barn directly into the beautiful hand-crafted cottage kitchen. The space is well equipped with everything you need to prepare slap up meals or a hearty breakfast, to include a large fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, kettle and toaster.  A large dining table completes this space.

The main living space is open plan with beamed ceilings, stylish furniture, and contemporary décor. This is where guests often tend to congregate in front of the Smart TV. If you wish for a little peace and quiet away from family and friends, you can retire to the small snug to read or perhaps enjoy a board game or two!

The master bedroom has a king-size bed against an impressive original brick wall, along with an en-suite including a large walk-in shower. This spacious bedroom complete with a sofa enjoys beautiful light, original beams and a soft, gentle colour palette, perfect for rest and relaxation. Two further large bedrooms have zip and link beds to provide the maximum flexibility for twin or super king occupancy. The main house bathroom has a bath with shower over, along with a basin and wc.

Outside this lovely cottage is a stone patio area with seating which is bathed in sunlight for much of the day and is the perfect location to enjoy breakfast in the great outdoors or an evening of al fresco dining.

Across from the cottage is a large garden, ideal for children to run around and let off steam. If you’re lucky you will also see an abundance of wildlife including fallow deer, barn owls, buzzards, hares and squirrels.

THE LOCAL AREA

The local market town of Helmsley lies just 2 miles from the cottage. The Norman Helmsley Castle dates back over 900 years. It has evolved over the centuries from a mighty medieval fortress to a luxurious Tudor mansion, a Civil War stronghold and a romantic Victorian ruin. The castle is open to visitors all year round, under the care of English Heritage.

Helmsley has everything you’d expect in a quintessentially Yorkshire market town; a vibrant market square, independent specialist shops, unique places to eat and drink and the imposing castle.  It also has a walled garden, a bird of prey centre, a microbrewery, an open-air swimming pool, a luxury spa, a nature reserve, galleries and an arts centre.

In the nearby village of Harome is a Michelin star pub/restaurant with its thatched roof and wonky walls. A visit is well worth it even if just for a quick drink after a long day exploring the North York Moors. Grange Cottage is ideally located to enjoy the historic city of York and its world-renowned attractions, along with Helmsley which is famous for its beautiful market square, ancient castle and unique shopping experience, and of course the stately home of the Feversham family, Duncombe Park.

Award-winning farm shop positioned ½ mile from the cottage.

From Helmsley, you can explore both The Howardian Hills and the neighbouring North York Moors National Park, stretching across the Whitby and the coast. Varied walking routes are on offer for seasoned ramblers and those looking for a more sedate meander alike. It’s also a perfect setting for a cycling holiday, with miles upon miles of challenging climbs and satisfying descents awaiting your discovery – rest assured the climbs  is well-worth the burn!

There are many historical attractions nearby including the majestic Castle Howard, the ecclesiastical ruins of Rievaulx Abbey and Byland Abbey and the National Birds of Prey Centre in Helmsley.

Lying just 24 miles north of the City of York, guests staying here are perfectly placed to head into a city centre that’s brimming history and culture. Take a walk along the castle walls and marvel at the view below or head to York Minster for some truly jaw-dropping architecture. Follow this with a wander around the quaint cobbled streets as you admire the architecture, peruse the local boutiques and discover York’s gourmet hotspots.

Discovering the wonderful local area is a highlight of any stay here. And the following attractions are all within easy reach of the Cottage –
